The Six F’s of a New Year’s Resolution

The new year is a great time to formulate and stick to resolutions that improve your life and that of the people around you.  A friend, business associate, and fellow “resolution fanatic,” Dr. Chris Owens, discovered these “six F’s” as a way to organize a comprehensive set of resolutions.

Your resolutions can be organized around these six critical areas of living a fulfilling and meaningful life:

  1. Faith

  2. Family

  3. Fitness

  4. Friends

  5. Finances

  6. Future

The first step is to prioritize these areas in order of importance.  For me, I found the process fairly easy because by this point in life (50th birthday this year) my priorities had shifted from finances and future to fitness and family.

Then within each category give 1-3 specific, measurable, and timely goals that relate to that category.  Don’t forget to relate each goal to your overall vision for yourself.

To keep me honest and accountable, I post the resolutions on my bathroom mirror and as a calendar event reminder on my phone periodically.  I have found that I need to be reminded of my new outlook for the year as the “busy-ness” creeps in.
